Lizzie Cam is back on air

After a short period of being 'down' our Beardie is now in her new Viv with the webcam back on line. Hopefully the new layout of the Viv and the new camera angle will give you a better overall view of what she's doing.

The problem with the old location was that if she wasn't sat on her favourite log then you plain could not see her. The new cam position, being much higher up, give a better view of the whole Viv. The down side is you won't get those lovely close up shots of her peering straight into the lens.

The bog dark shape you can see in the right hand of the shot are some branches we have put in there as she loves to climb. Also, although none of you will have Smelly-Vision you'll always be able to tell when she has done her dragon business as she hates the smell and climbs as far away from it as possible, which generally is that branch you can see.

Now we are all up and running again we hope should be able to keep the blog up to date ( long story ).

A woeful webcam story by Dad

Apologies to all our viewers but the webcam is off at the monent for a couple of reasons. Firstly the Mac that serves it has had a near death experience and is currently undergoimg major power supply transplant surgery. If it pulls though then we should be back on air with it in a week or so. Secondly the Beardie is about to be rehoused in a larger Viv - the little blighter has grown at an astonishing rate and needs something bigger, so I've got to fiddle around rewiring everything and work out the best view for the cam.

As the new Viv is 4 foot odd high ( we have a bearded dragon that loves to climb ) I am hoping to mount the cam to give a bird eye, or should that be a beardies eye, view of the inside of the Viv. Watch this space.

Today we tried Kev on Waxworms, she ate one and when offered a second declined, so although we had read that Beardies like these, Kev it seems would prefer a pansy flower! Since we have had Kev she has grown 3 inches and has very much become one of the family.

I had the shock of my life today when I went to give Kev some of the mealworms from the cupboard, half of them had turned into beetles! oops. I must try to find out what sort of beetles they are, as they are golden and not like the black ones you find in the garden.

We tried Kev on raw egg and she wasn't impressed , so today we gave her some cooked egg and she looked at us as if we were mad! I don't blame her one bit as I don't like egg either but Mum says I should eat it sometimes as its good for me. Kev did like grated carrot and dandelions . I agree with her on the carrot but I'll leave the dandelions to Kev!

Heat! - Posted By Mum

We are learning all the time about Kev and noticing her changes in mood etc. In this recent hot weather we realized that Kev was flagging more than usual and we turned one of her heat lamps off and I gave her a bath to perk her up. In a recent conversation with the very knowledgeable Dave at Scales and Tails he was saying that one of the common causes of death in reptiles is over heating. People wrongly assuming that just because most reptiles come from hot places that they can stand the heat. Its a fine balance to keep the temperature right and in hot weather your vivarium can act like a greenhouse and cause your reptile real problems. Also he advised on the question of mealworms, Kev can have them once a week, best placed on her salad, between 30 to 40! So this morning that's what I've given her and we'll see what happens. Watch this space!
